“So that’s why I bring Violet Wickett up,” says the first, feminine voice, “because there’s two things that have defined Vi her entire career. How hard she plays as a forward, especially on defence, and her rivalry with Caitlyn Kiramman.”

“See, if I’m Mel Medarda, I’m not even giving Wickett another glance. I’m taking Kiramman with my first pick and grabbing from the end of the Ironfist’s bench.”

“That’s what makes this so delicious, though, Jack. Mel Medarda can get both of them.”

This is so fun!! I don't know anything about ice hockey!! And it's a great fic anyways!!! Fun cut backs to the title, meta perspective with documentary components woven throughout, awesome characterization. It also touches on really important topics that need greater awareness in sports, and deals respectfully with other topics that are important to society in general. Unfortunately Vander had to be tweaked for the plot... but it's understandable.

“Your last solo album is proof enough that Jinx was Powder-Keg’s writer and you were simply the front man; there’s nothing wrong with that. I don’t need you to be a songwriter, I have hundreds of those at my disposal. I need your voice, your stage presence and your star power. Can you do that for me?”

Vi was still busy deciding whether or not to be offended when the question was posed, so it took her a moment to answer, “I guess.”

So impressive how much work was put into integrating music and lyrics! And so funny how caitlyn is and was vi's Number One Fan. Really great perspective writing -- characters build on what they perceive of the world and their own thoughts, and perspective is consistent. The ambiguity and grey areas at different points really hits in a good way. A healing ending that is still complex and imperfect, as it should be given the characters. Also...a Hot fic (and an interesting depiction of sex as communication).

    Summary

“Nah, you way over-tipped last night. This one’s on the house.”

Lena’s shoulders slump in mock exasperation. “Kara, don’t start with me.”

“I am absolutely starting with you.”

What a smug little shit, Lena thinks. But God is she cute. “You really don’t want to play this game.”

    "Yeah? Maybe I do.”

It’s said so softly, so gently, and if this was one of Siobhan’s movies, they wouldn’t be talking about the money or drinks at all, they’d be talking about something clenching around Lena’s chest, something stifling, a loneliness that paralyzes her bones.

“Don’t blame me when you lose,” Lena says with a gentle upturn of her mouth, her voice low and crackling, leaving a fifty-dollar bill on the bartop before she turns away.

There really truly aren't the words to express how I'm feeling now and how this fic has made me feel adsff[Q39POASJKDF anyway there are so many things to love about it.... super interesting, honest, and heartwarming take on Alex; stupidly sweet bickering and other details in the relationships, platonic/familial/romantic or otherwise; the buildup to the BIG ANGSTY REVEAL that I could feel coming and kept me up way too late on a weeknight but was also slipped into such growing happiness from Lena; parallels; Gayle as a dark horse OC? (jk later season character); the happy ending that's good and strong without sex; etc. Author's way of conveying emotions is super cool -- the part ending in "This is heartbreak, and this is all"??? Damn, girl. Fic is in Lena's perspective for the most part and gives her happiness and growth and a very fleshed out existence. I would love to run through for spelling and grammar; nevertheless this is such a GOOD READ

!!!! So good!!! The DEPTH and COMPLEXITY of the relationships....the SISTERLY BOND....the ANGST lol. I also appreciate how Supergirl and the DEO are actually competent, unlike in the show...

A tumblr prompt, spiraled out of control.

Kara, perhaps out of a want for thoroughness in her story, perhaps out of a Millennial-born urge to creep on a the social media of a woman she finds intriguing, discovers that Lena Luthor has a pretty active following on Instagram one afternoon not long after their first meeting. She debates it, just for a moment, before following Lena.

Heartfelt and nuanced! A very cool take on a social media foundation. I really enjoyed the emphasis on the fact that social issues are way more complex than often portrayed (including in the show itself) and how well the complexity was portrayed -- to feel real and solid, rather than contrived/glossed over. Love the character interactions/relationships here too (especially, of course, Kara and Lena) and the exploration of cultural differences urk
