    Turns out the owner of the place and even some of the workers there know about demons, and they're almost sure a creature like that is the one who has been making their boys vanish like they never existed.

    "They snatch them when the clients buy them for a whole night and want to take them to a private inn," the owner explains. "Sometimes he kills the clients too, but some have managed to escape because he only wants the boys."

    "He?" Tanjirou asks, trying to get as much information as possible.

    "All of the clients who have survived said it was a male demon," she nods.

    Immediately, Tanjirou turns towards Kyojuro with a smile on his face, even though the Pillar usually smiles back at him, this time he just shakes his head.

    "No."

    "It's a good idea! I can pretend to be a worker here," Tanjirou stops for a second and bites his bottom lip. "I know I'm not that pretty but if I get some makeup–"

    "Tanjirou!" Kyojuro cuts him off, looking tense. He hasn't smiled since they got there. "It's too risky."

    "Kyojuro-san?"

    Instead of answering, the flame hashira keeps smiling before taking one of Tanjirou's hands and kissing the back of it softly.

    The redhead's cheeks turn slightly pink, but he manages to grin back. It's okay, they're friends... This is just how Kyojuro shows it.

    "You have become so important to me, I don't know what I'd do without you."

    “I…” Tanjiro gasped, seeming to hesitate for the smallest of seconds before frowning - his determined look, Kyoujurou had learned - “Yes.”

     

    “You’re certain?”

     

    Tanjiro blinked, looking down in one second and up toward Kyoujurou in the next, the smallest flicker of his irises between Kyoujurou’s own betraying his hesitation. Then he smiled, pulling himself upward and ever so gently settling his forehead against Kyoujurou’s own. It was a gesture of trust - a cue he’d taken from Kyoujurou, who’d first done it following a mishap with Tanjiro’s stone forehead, his own quirky way of telling him he wasn’t afraid.
