Still, her head turns to him like whiplash. "John."
He smiles at her surprise; the way her jade eyes widen at the sound of his voice, how her shoulders tense at the slightest, the slightest change in the way she says his name, as if it's a question. Who knew one word can shake such a tenacious woman so easily? He's certain he used her given name before as well, which does not reduce the peculiar phenomenon that is it all; there's an almost foreign feeling of her name on his tongue, and yet it is so oddly comfortable it is for him.
