When it comes down to it, Himeno could never fulfill the contract she set. She can’t have given the Ghost everything because Aki’s got her letters in his drawer; a beaten-up pack of cigarettes that got passed along to him by whoever collected her clothes from the wreckage of the ramen shop; a washed and dried and folded a pair of her socks that ended up in his laundry; now this message.
“She’s still with you, isn’t she?”

Summary
Taking place in an alternate timeline after the end of Part 1, Denji is now older and Nayuta just turned sixteen. Denji must come to terms with his past and figure out what a future in which Nayuta no longer needs him might look like. But the past is not a foreign land and even after all these years, Denji cannot outrun it completely, and there are figures still waiting to emerge from its shadow...
(Some initial inspiration taken from the subject of 'too young once' by sanjussence, but after that I just run with my own thing. I have read Part 2 and will incorporate elements from it, though this is an AU where the timelines have diverged.)

Kobeni couldn't hack it in Public Service. That first day was too terrible and she turned in her badge then and there. But nothing pays like a government gig, and when the scary trainer man with the scarred mouth came knocking, she didn't have the budget to turn him away.
Still, helping one kid adjust to the big city and looking out for him, for just as much as devil hunting? If there was something she could do, it was look after a kid for a bit. She could help a teenager adjust to a new life. Maybe. Hopefully. If she didn't fuck it up.
