She comes to him once a year. Adorned in Carja silks and the tiara he once gifted her long ago. He stands at that balcony each year on the anniversary of the Battle of the Alight. Pretends he can see the statue he had built in admiration of her from where he is, hears the celebrations in her honour in the streets. A reminder that she’s never truly gone.
He waits for her there, taking in the constellations that crowd the sun soaked bridges of rock. He can always feel the air change just when she is about to pull herself up over the bannister. And then there she is, all fire swept behind the pale gleam of moonlight. And though she moves like a shadow she’s bright like a solar flare.
