Thomas always noticed how Newt pressed his lips together, jaw locked, everytime he and Thomas shared silent glances.
Thomas noticed how his own stomach clenched everytime that happened. How he wished Newt was closer.
How he started to wonder how many freckles Newt had now. Maybe if he got close enough, he would be able to count them.
That thought was never able to grow just enough. And Thomas was always the one to look away first.
