Classic Tim, Lucy thinks, feeling her lips tug upwards. “Hey,” he says, crossing the room without so much as an acknowledgement to Chris before putting a hand on the back of Lucy’s chair, leaning downwards slightly to talk to her. “You okay?”
“You can’t-” The lawyer pauses, clearly flustered. “Lucy.” Chris gives Lucy a look, pleading with his eyes for her to send Tim away so Chris won’t leave the room with his tail between his legs.
“Tim stays.” The decision, as if it could ever be different, is final. “I need him.”
