Summary
Yellow eyes— seemingly devoid of a body— stared back at him from the darkness. They didn’t blink.
Tommy’s breath caught in his throat.
“No, no, no,” he whimpered. The rough forest floor cut into his bare feet and his ankle burned with every stumbled step backwards, but his fear outweighed any pain he could possibly feel.
The yellow eyes didn’t move closer, but they did tilt, as if considering him.
He took another step back.
And promptly collided with something.
Tommy screamed and lurched around, forgetting about the yellow eyes in his panic. To his horror, he found himself staring up at the most terrifying creature he’d ever seen.
Red eyes stared, unblinking, back. White tusks— sharp enough to sink into Tommy’s soft flesh— shone in Tommy’s night vision.
“Little one.” The voice was low and other-worldly. It paralyzed Tommy where he stood. “You should not be out here.”
Tommy wasn’t breathing anymore. All functions had stopped beyond his heart pounding out a single word: run, run, run.
Or, Tommy's running for his life from hybrid hunters, until suddenly, he's cornered by something much worse.
