But I insisted he come in for a checkup, unannounced, so I could really only blame myself for his apparent discomfort as he swung his legs in a rather frantic manner and puffed hot air into his praying palms.
"So what's this about, doc?" Scout wrinkled his nose. "I told ya I'm fine."
"Just a routine checkup." Neither of us believed it.

He missed his bed- shit, he missed having a bed at all. He missed the desert wind and the traces of sand in his shoes. He missed hearing the coyotes cry, way out in the night, singing for a moon that would never answer.
…He really missed Medic.
