“I can’t believe–” Jayce starts, at the same moment that Viktor begins, “I didn’t think–”
He pulls back enough to catch Viktor’s eyes once more, presses their foreheads together. “Are we alive?”
“I don’t know,” Viktor admits, fingers glancing across Jayce’s cheek. “I don’t–” He sucks in a breath. “I thought that would be the end. But…I do not understand the arcane as much as I’d thought. I should reserve my surprise.”
Or, the wild rune brings Jayce and Viktor into a pocket dimension where they learn their thoughts can shape their surroundings.

Summary
It is the early years of Jayce and Viktor's scientific partnership, and the Distinguished Innovators competition is only three days away. That is, if they can get all the work done for it in time when Jayce is exhausted, overworked, and at risk of burning out entirely before they even make it there.
So when Jayce jokingly asks Viktor to take control and tell him what to do, in the hopes that it will help Jayce relax and get some much needed sleep before the competition, he was not expecting Viktor to so readily oblige. Nor was he expecting what happened after.

Viktor knows that Jayce's arms around him are the only thing keeping the voice of the Hexcore at bay. He knows he has only a few moments before it takes him away from Jayce forever.
