He sat there on the cold, hard floor, head swimming and breathing ragged. It amazed him that he was still awake—that he was still alive.
The lights were on, but Muichiro’s vision was dark, and panic settled uncomfortably under his skin, familiar and at home. Amidst it all, a question lingered. It had adhered to his very being like that of a sticky and impressionable child.
Why me?
Muichiro knew the answer already. It all circled back to that damned phrase.

Summary
After the incident that led to the subsequent loss of many of his memories, Muichiro was left to pick up the pieces of who he once was, along with figuring out who to become in the face of it.
Years later, still struggling, Muichiro found himself stuck at a crossroads. On one side: try to heal, learn, and move on. On the other: give up.
There was an obvious answer, of course. But he didn’t know if he was strong enough to choose it—for one of those options seemed much, much, easier than the other.
“I remember things, sometimes,” he said, staring at the flowers, gently rubbing one of its soft petals between his fingers.
Yuichiro tilted his head. “Like what?”
Things I wish would stay forgotten, he could say. Or: If I told you, would you ever look at me the same as you do now?
Instead, Muichiro just offered a weak smile. “Nothing important.”
