“Sylvain, don’t do this,” Felix sighed as he entered the tent.
“Aw, Felix, don’t tell me you’re worried about me?” Sylvain turned and smirked at Felix as he finished buckling up his breastplate. He reached down to grab his greaves to begin attaching those.
Felix barely resisted kicked the metal guards out of Sylvain’s reach in petty defiance, “You are ancient, you won’t stand a chance against this child twenty years younger than you.”
“I don’t hear you complaining about my fitness levels most nights,” Sylvain looked up to waggle his eyebrows at his husband.
“Sylvain!” Felix whined as he swatted at his husband’s head, “I’m serious!”
“Felix, you worry too much! It’s a friendly spar, we’re using blunted weapons! What’s the worst that could happen? Besides, we can’t let these kids thinking our generation has gone soft. I can still keep up.”

Sylvain agrees to compete in the inaugural Almyran-Fodlani Martial Tournament, an event created to celebrate years of ongoing peace between the two lands. Of course, he dedicates his performance to his beloved husband, the Duke Fraldarius. Said husband is not at all pleased about this entire thing.

Felix had argued vehemently, while Ingrid ripped the room apart to find clothing for them to wear and Sylvain listened at the cracked door to the soldiers downstairs informing the unimpressed brothel owner that they were conducting a routine search for spies from the Kingdom and would need access to all customer rooms, that there was no good reason he had to wear the costume and Sylvain got to keep (most of) his own clothes on.
Sylvain had—heroically, he thinks—refrained from saying either “You’re prettier” or “You’re so much smaller,” both of which are absolutely true and either of which would have earned him at least a minor stabbing.
