“So, like, you just want me to improvise.”
“Yeah, sure, whatever comes to your mind.”

Vi looked at her mother sitting in front of them, a grin on her face. She reached for Caitlyn’s hand on the table, wrapping it with her own gently. Her mother was looking at them with a raised eyebrow.
“Me and Caitlyn have been dating for a while now.”
Caitlyn’s breath hitched in her throat, making her almost choke on her saliva. She tried to keep the most serious, straightest face she could. She couldn’t show herself being surprised, it would’ve been suspicious. But she couldn’t believe it. Of everything Vi could’ve pulled out, this was the most and the least predictable. It felt so cliché, you bring a friend for the holidays, of course people are going to think you’re dating, it was the easiest option to explain; but that could not work with her and Vi, her mother would see right through their act.
“Finally!” Her father suddenly said. Caitlyn was positive she choked this time, a cough escaping from her mouth.

Vi had needed to hide from the Enforcers for only a few minutes, half an hour tops. When she climbed through the conveniently open window, Vi had expected an empty Topsider study that she could loot while she waited for the scene to clear on the street. What she HADN'T expected was to have a gun pointed in her face by a wanna-be Enforcer. A wanna-be Enforcer with blue eyes that stole Vi's breath away and an outlook that made Vi question everything she expected from Topside.
Another "they meet as kids!" au but we can pretend that it's different.
