The thing about losing people, is that it never gets any easier. Lose one or lose everyone you’ve ever loved, it’s a kind of ache that never gets any easier to feel. It’s a kind of news that stops your day, your week, your entire world, and for the rest of your lie you will always remember where you were, what you were doing and the first person you made eye contact with after your world stopped. You will always remember the first person to hold you after you get the news, the first person to keep you grounded when you want to fall apart.
For most people if you’re unlucky, it happens once maybe twice, if you’re Ilya Rosanov it happens three times.

    Summary

Because if Ilya didn’t walk out of there, if he didn’t step onto the fucking sidewalk, then Shane Hollander would never touch a hockey stick again. If he didn’t defy the goddamn odds and crawl out of that goddamn building and come straight to Shane and apologize for scaring the life out of him, then the Shane Hollander that the world knew and loved would cease to exist. He would die here in this disgusting pile of rubble, in the exact same spot they would find Ilya’s body in and nobody would know why. Nobody would know anything because Shane wanted to be a hockey player first instead of the love of Ilya’s life.
