"No," he grits out. "They can't. Not about Earth. Not about you. Who you are. That you're a scientist. That you can—" That you have saved the stars. He clamps down on the words, swallowing them in sharp pieces that scrape his throat on the way down. "You can't reason with these people."

He lets out a small, contented hum and Ambrosius snuffles sleepily at his neck.
‘What’re you thinking about?’ he murmurs.
‘Just that I feel good,’ Bal says softly. He lets go of Ambrosius’s hand, sliding his fingers back to touch his thigh instead. ‘Happy.’
He feels Ambrosius smile against his skin. ‘Me too,’ he whispers.
