“It was me”, the trembling voice admitted. “I did it.” Mydei’s heart plunged. His throat locked as he held on to that precious man even tighter, bringing him into an unyielding hug.
Nuzzling his head into a strong shoulder, he felt his husband do the same, ignoring how the floor pressed uncomfortably into his back and arms coiled around him in a crushing squeeze. It did not matter. Not now.
Mydei could barely hear his own voice, no louder than a muffled whisper, as he asked the most frightful question of all.
“Why?”
A simple yet loaded ask. Khaslana’s shoulders shook in their embrace, his breath hitched against his skin, and his fingers flexed against his clothes.
“Mydei…”
“Mh.”
“Mydeimos…”
“Yeah, I’m here.”
“I… don’t think I’m human anymore.”
