His smile was too genuine, his eyes too truthful, his hand on hers seeping too much sincerity into her skin for it to be false. She thought that if she instead had a truth detector her retina display would be screaming with colour as she looked at him.

Cinder swiped her wrist under the scanner where her ID chip was buried under her flesh. As she picked up her bags her eyes paused on a display of clear wrapped jewelry nestled in a dilapidated cardboard box. The facing was a picture of Kai, but as a teenager of probably thirteen.
Cinder fished past the water damaged cardboard for one of the packets. Holding it up, she saw a silver chain necklace, and in swirling cursive the words Prince Kai.
In which Cinder buys a cheap Prince Kai necklace, and question what it means to truly be his fan.
