Summary
Oscar needs Mark to take him out of his head. Mark tries not to give in.
Or:
He sometimes thought about what a person from the outside must think. If someone knew about it. What it would look like, the whole thing going on between them. Considering the age gap and that Mark took Oscar under his wing when he was only eighteen, practically being his number one advisor when it came to his career, his mentor. Mark was perfectly aware of what it looked like. Taking advantage of your mentee, he thought. Abuse, maybe.
It was almost funny to him, sometimes, how false a perception that would be. -

Lando’s breath catches in his throat.
“You talk a great deal whenever you have the chance. But inside, you’re just an insecure little boy who is desperately in need of someone to take him out of his head.”
Oscar comes even closer, towering over Lando, who feels very small all of a sudden, with Oscar looking down on him like that. His breath brushes over his face.“Someone who’s not scared to put you in your place.”

Summary
So far in his F1 career, Lando has never been a regular visitor to the winner’s room.
But ever since the new season, ever since Oscar started winning almost every race, that had changed.
If Lando had known that this would happen back when he won his first race in Miami 2024, he probably wouldn’t have requested Oscar for his first winners room. At least that’s what he likes to tell himself. And maybe he wouldn’t have requested Oscar in Melbourne earlier this year, if he had known that the rest of the season would go like this. The truth is, even if he had known Oscar would go on to win almost every race, and request Lando every single time for the room, he probably would’ve done it anyway. He probably would’ve done it just to make Oscar request him every single time.
