Summary
“Buck?” Christopher asks, tucked tightly into bed. Buck sits lightly on the edge of his bed as he smooths out his comforter. Eddie’s out with Ana, and Buck is babysitting, as usual. He doesn’t mind, he loves spending time with Chris. He is his favourite Diaz, after all. They’d just called Carla for a bedtime story because Chris had particularly missed her today. She’d read his favourite story as of late and Buck had listened from his place next to Chris.
“Yeah, buddy?”
“Do you have an invisible string too?”

“Because that bullet was supposed to hit me!” Eddie looks startled by his own words, but he barrels on. “You jumped in front of me, Buck. Why the fuck would you do that?”
“Why the fuck wouldn’t I?” Buck asks, as if the answer is obvious. Because even if he can’t remember right this second, he doesn’t doubt it’s something he would have done. “After you got shot by that sniper I swore I’d never let anything like that happen again if there was anything I could do to stop it.”
“Yeah, well, jokes on you,” Eddie says, taking a sip of his beer. “Bullet went through both of us anyway, didn’t it?”
