“Of course,” Chat answered
His breath rattled between his words. “I normally handle this on my own.”
Oh.
The clues came together. The summons. The food. Khem's overheated skin.
“You’re entering your heat.”
Khem turned around, leaning against the door in an echo of Chat’s earlier pose. “Yes. I admit, it's caught me out of cycle.”
That explained the rushed nature of the preparations.
Chat’s heart raced as the implications became apparent. “And you want me to spend it with you.”
