They thought that Gotham was theirs to control?
Jason could see how they might, it was a clusterfuck of a city. He would know, he grew up in its streets, died at its hands, and when he’d been given another chance, he came right back. That was how messed up he was– how messed up Gotham made him. Jason could understand the idea that it was a place where someone could get away with centuries old plots of large scale political manipulation and corruption. But what they didn’t know, what they couldn’t know, was that for the kids, the workers, the people of this city who spent each day just trying to survive, the hardship built loyalty.
Intense, desperate loyalty.
So when the Court of Owls kidnaps Dick and very nearly succeeds in turning him into their Talon, Jason doesn’t just want justice or revenge. He was going to track them down one by one and show them exactly what happens when you try to mess with his family. -

Jason was trying to have a normal night. By normal night, he did mean tracking down and beating the crap out of some low-level drug dealer that had been selling to kids in crime alley, but that was normal to him. Relaxing even. Especially because there was no reason for him to run into any bats.
He was trying. And he was failing. Through no fault of his own. And it was all the goddamn emergency beacon’s fault.

Bruce never imagined that this would be his life.
After the death of his parents, he had a plan. He had resigned himself to a life alone in the dark and shadows. But then Dick came into his life. Then Jason. And now, here is was, up at the crack of dawn to celebrate the thirteenth birthday of his youngest son. There were plans in motion, surprises in place, and Bruce was happier than he had ever imagined he would be. It was a shame someone else had plans that could see him losing everything.
