El and Will grew up in Lenora.
It's second year of college at NYU. Dustin, Mike, Lucas, and Max are all roommates at an apartment near the campus. Meanwhile, Eleanor Jane Hopper is in Paris with her sister Kali, chasing El's dreams of becoming a dancer. When El's brother Will Byers transfers from a community college to NYU on a scholarship, El obviously asks her childhood best friend, whos shes kept on touch with over the years, if Will could roommate with her and her friends since the dorm expenses are a bitch.
