"I don't know how you landed such a lovely girl, Wednesday, but you had better not lose her!"
Wednesday stares blankly at her mother and blinks as she tries to parse the words.
Land… a lovely girl? Lose her? Her? Enid?
She knows that Enid has an agreeable temperament and people gravitate towards her— even the more anti-social sorts like herself. "Lovely" would not be an inaccurate description of her roommate. As for losing her, they are on excellent terms as roommates and even as… well, friends.
"You need not fear any such thing happening. Is that all?"
"You could learn a thing or two from your wife, you know that?"
It is Enid that spits out her drink at her mother's strange words.
"What???"
"Have you finally lost it, Mother?"
"That's what I want to ask you, you ridiculous girl!"
"Huh? What do you—"
"When were you going to tell me you two got married?"
Wednesday and Enid wake up one morning and discover that they are married now.
