Summary
As Wise watches Lighter fearlessly walk into a hollow alone, face down dozens and dozens of opponents without an ounce of fear, without a care for his safety, and then watches him come out victoriously in the end, a small spark forms in Wise’s chest. It grows as he hears Lighter talk about his past, sharing the tragedies he faced, a past littered in thorns that scarred both his body and his heart.
As Wise watches from Eous’s eyes the way the light from the setting sun settles over Lighter’s face, softening his features, the spark grows. The way the wind rustles his hair, the way Lighter turns after his tale to give Wise a tired smile tinged with sadness and regret, so fragile, like splintered glass ready to break that spark ignites into a tiny flame.
The flame is the start of a tender emotion, a gentle affection.
From that day on that little flame slowly grows bigger, changing color, changing form.
Changing into something that consumes his heart.
Changing into love.

“Not as lucky as me.” Lighter said sincerity laced in each syllable, squeezing the cooler hand.
“Nope, you’re selling yourself short Lighter, you’re so strong and dependable, selfless but still fun. I like that you can crack jokes and act like nothings wrong in the middle of hollows. You’re so quick on your feet, and always know what to say to make me smile.” Wise turned with a shy smile, “ I don’t think I could get any luckier to have someone like you in my life.”
Lighter was slack jawed for a moment, before wrapping Wise in a barrel of a hug and laying down. He pecked on little kisses all over Wise’s face and sighed. “What I said last night, when you asked me why I liked you, that was just a glimpse. Darlin I could write ballads and poems and any other pretty thing, but it wouldn’t be enough, I don’t know enough words to tell you what I want to, Hell, I don’t know if a word like that exists.”
His gaze was focused on Wise, and Wise only, the dark green of his eyes overtaken by the blown red pupil. “Baby I adore ya, everything you say, everything you do, I'm happy just to be able to make ya smile. If you’ll allow me, I’d like to make you smile for many more days to come.”

"Firstly, she didn't state that we both needed consorts," Wise started, waving his hand around as he found some twine in his drawers. "In fact, she said 'consort'. So if we take that literally, which we will, that means this decree is only applicable for one potential partner." He hummed when he found what he needed, and he started rolling up his letter. "Secondly, she never specified who's hand."
Lighter listened intently, but after Wise finished speaking, it only took a few seconds for realisation to set in. When it did, it was quickly followed by utter disbelief.
”You didn’t…”
Wise gazed at him from under his silvery lashes, and despite his smile, his eyes remained firm and steadfast, like the high and low tides of the ocean; coming and going as nature intended.
"No wonder Her Majesty was so angry with you." Lighter shook his head, brows pinched in equal parts exasperation and frustration. "You're planning on staking your own hand in marriage."

Due to circumstances, Wise has been forced to offer his hand in marriage in a tournament. Lighter is vehemently against this arrangement; more so than he really should. And he doesn't know why.
