“No,” Gao Tu affirms, drinking in Wenlang's body heat and the alpha smell leaking off of him – typically he's not this close to an alpha he doesn't know unless they're trying to pull him over the bar, so it's not something he's used to. And it's true – that Gao Tu doesn't mind Wenlang being there, not at all. Scary, yes. But uncomfortable isn't the word Gao Tu would use to describe their situation.

The omega hesitates before answering. This is dangerous ground to tread on with alphas, he's heard – the truth that the alpha might not want to hear, or the lie that he'll hear in his heartbeat anyway; the only difference is that with the lie, he might feel as though Gao Tu was respecting him enough to not just blurt out his true negative feelings all over the place.
He scratches at the side of his face for a second. “Um...kinda?”

“Gao Tu… Can you help me? I don’t trust anyone but you right now.” Wenlang asked tiredly, his forehead now resting on Gao Tu’s rigid shoulder.
In the midst of Wenlang’s uncontrollable rut, Gao Tu was torn apart by three conflicting voices, all of them variations of himself: The first one, the omega part, was telling him to surrender, to let himself be wrapped by the alpha’s arms. The second one, colder and more rational, urged him to run, to escape the imminent danger an alpha in rut posed.
Against fear and instinct, Gao Tu chose the third one. He chose to remain, to help the man who had been his first love and his greatest danger. In doing so, he crossed a line from which neither of them could return. What began as desperation turned into intimacy, altering the fragile balance of their relationship and changing both of their lives forever.
