Summary
By the autumn of 1944, the Allies are driving the German forces back through France. The Rat Patrol is still together, still a formidable commando team to be reckoned with, still harrying the Germans and causing havoc for the enemy wherever they are sent. Hans Dietrich is now a colonel, commanding a Panzer division in France. Dietrich has been through the wringer in this war -- losing the woman he loved, observing with increasing concern the growing megalomania of the Führer and chafing at the increasing rigidity of the Nazi command in the face of what is almost certain defeat. The stage is set for the war's endgame -- how far will Dietrich go in defying orders he knows will lead to disaster...and what exactly are Troy, Hitch, Tully and Moffitt up to on their most difficult commando mission, penetrating into the heart of Germany itself?
The first part of this story was published in the fanzine LINES IN THE SAND: THE RAT PATROL CHRONICLES in 1994. As always, your comments, feedback and factual expertise are much appreciated!

A Game of Shadows: What happened between the time Sherlock Holmes died during the escape from Heilbronn and the time he died at Reichenbach? Discover the "missing scenes" as Holmes, Watson and Simza navigate this perilous journey, dodging Moriarty's minions, running, fighting, bickering, loving and healing as they go. Action-adventure, hurt-comfort, triumph and sorrow. "Middlegame" is a chess term that refers to the whole of the game between the opening and the endgame -- a time when there are too many pieces on the board for theoretical positions to be completely analyzed. This story has that sense as well -- things are happening that thwart Holmes' most careful analyses, and he realizes he is NOT in control. He comes to the only conclusion there is -- and he's keeping a terrible secret from Watson as this story unfolds. UPDATE - August 2017 - inspired by the Ritchie Holmes resurgence and fellow writers, your author is preparing to upload NEW CHAPTERS!

Based on a beautiful and evocative scene (the Dubai party and its aftermath) deleted from the original Iron Man movie, but included in the deleted-scenes extra on the Blu-Ray release. One of my favorite parts of the movie (that wasn't even IN the movie!) called out for a story from Tony's POV.
