Carol Sturka, a grief-stricken school vice-principal, has to accompany a young educator Zosia Wiśniewska and her school's drama group to The Theatre Festival in London, England. Carol isn't thrilled about the pressure that’s been placed on her by the principal, and her very annoyingly enthusiastic colleague seems to be challenging her on a lot of things.

After the death of her wife, nihilistic and closeted romance author Carol Sturka descends into a stupor of drunken depression which is only compounded when her fanbase finds out she’s a lesbian and erupts in outrage and deems her disingenuous. Her publicist has the perfect solution to rebuild Carol's public image and free her from the "romance slop" genre forever, but Carol isn't going to like it.

Carol takes her in, despite Manousos' protests, and begins the slow process of discovering who the "real" Zosia is. Even after months apart, Carol still wants to save her girl—but she also wants to save the world. She's not sure if there's really much difference between the two...
