A giggly—oh daddy, you’re so strong—when he carries her up the stairs, letting her heels dangle off her feet after a night of dancing. A sarcastic—don’t worry, daddy’s here now—whispered in her ear, lost over the cheers of her friends when he passes his card to the bartender, covering everyone’s rounds for the rest of the night.

    But it most certainly has not happened at nine in the morning over a plate of potatoes.
