(This fic is a product of literal years of work, and it shows - because each chapter is better written than the one before it. None of us know what we're doing when we first start writing, myself included. Someday I intend to go back and whip the early sections of this story into shape, but until then: Please read past the first chapter - you won't be sorry.)
