“But— I have a child,” implored Lottie, tears starting to fall down both of her cheeks. “Please. I’m not ready to leave her.”
Shauna huffed out a breath of contemptuous air. “As if I don’t know what that feels like.”
“Wait, Shauna— I didn’t mean— I wasn’t trying to compare this to—”
But it was too late. Shauna had pulled the hood back over her head and was walking away. The light from her torch was fading. Dark and dank had already started to take hold in its place. The same song started all over again.
“There is freedom within; there is freedom without. Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup. There's a battle ahead; many battles are lost—” went the lyrics.
“And my name is not Shauna,” Lottie heard a voice growl up ahead. “It’s Hades. Get it fucking right next time.”
