“Look at us now.” Crowley’s hands move up from Halt’s shoulders to cradle his face. “It’s too late for us, isn’t it?”
Halt doesn’t reply. Yes, he would say, and this fragile, tender thing between them would be lost forever. No, he would say, and the lie would sour what few truths they have left.
Or: four times Crowley was in Halt’s dreams, and one time he wasn’t.

"I'm sorry," Will gasped right after without thinking, and the words hitched in his throat as if they had to pass through a barrier. "I'm— I’m sorry."
"It's okay." Halt didn’t sound frustrated, at least. He didn’t scold him for crying, not even a little. "Will, can you tell me where you are, right now?"
