Henry looks into the crib and thinks everything was worth her. He tries not to think about the beginning, the shame. It’s better not to try and remember, although there isn’t much memory there, anyway. She’s here and that’s all that matters. She’s here and there is nothing anyone can do about it now. Vodka has never been his friend, but he can't bring himself to regret the result.

The next exchange comes through loud and clear and shuts Alex down completely.
“And what about her father? Is he in the picture?” the worker asks, “We’ll need to notify him.”
“No,” is the answer, “It’s embarrassing, but I never got a name. It was just a drunken, one night stand with a cowboy.”
Alex freezes, he can literally feel his blood run cold, and he remembers where he knows that scent. It was easily the drunkest night of his life. His biggest regret was losing the handsome stranger.They both mess up, but they've been looking for each other ever since. How could they not?

He’s taking a page out of his romance novel, his confidence coming back to him in an unpredictable wave. That’s how it seems to operate, ebbing and flowing against Henry’s will. He tries to ride it as it crashes to shore.
Alex smiles, eyes shimmering with playfulness. “Promise I’m a gentleman, darlin’.” His calloused hands creep underneath Henry’s shirt, fingertips pressing into perfectly soft skin. He’s closer now, lips inches from Henry’s ear, “Unless you’d rather I wasn’t.”
