The thoughts slipped from Linc’s mind as the snap of a twig reached his ears. What was–
A rifle clicked behind them. His whole body froze, blood running cold. Praying that it was just some lone bandit, he slowly turned his head to see who the attacker was. A pair of dark, onyx eyes blazed back at him, pinning him to his spot. He’d never seen this person before, but she looked about their age. The wild look on her cold face told him that she was dangerous.
“W-We mean no harm,” Linc stammered out, slowly lifting his hands above his head in surrender. “Just got lost in the woods….”
The gun clicked again, the nose aiming right between his eyes. He had to force himself to pull his gaze away from the nozzle and back up at her. Her fingers trembled as they gripped the rifle, but her face stayed stony and calloused.
“Willy warned me about scum like you. Searching our camp, and lurking in the shadows,” she hissed through bared teeth.
