While out on patrol, Mydei and Phainon get hit with a curse that binds their hands together.

Phainon inhales sharply, and goes very, very still. Mydei's breath ghosts over that spot behind his ear, the thin skin of his neck where his pulse jackrabbits at the attention. He stops at Phainon’s choker, growling something under his breath. His tongue slips under one of the straps and Phainon clenches his eyes shut.
The tendons in Phainon's neck jump with the effort to remain in place. Then Mydei—
Mydei presses his lips right where a mating bite would be.
