Summary

Summary
“I’m in a band now,” Caitlyn Kiramman says, over the phone.
Viktor remembers seeing that, somewhere. Vaguely. A rock band of some sort, which had been unsettling to hear; Caitlyn had been one of the more talented students he’d ever mentored, and she had stepped off of the path that he has devoted his life to.
But she sounds proud to say it, so he finds himself smiling as he says, “I’ve heard.”
“Yeah? Um. Well. There’s a gig on Saturday. It pays.” He hears a sharp inhale, an exhale, and then she confesses, “We need someone who can play keys.”
Viktor is pursuing his PhD in musicology. He also needs to make rent.
“Viktor might be a bad idea for you right now,” Vi says, straight to the point.
“Fuck off,” Jayce responds. “You know I didn’t mean anything by it. All talk, like you said.”
“Not a lot of folks Cupcake calls in a crisis. She says he’s a nice guy. You’re not crashing out, but Viktor deserves better than to be treated like a rebound without knowing, and if you make shit weird for him and Cait, I’m going to hand you your ass.”
Jayce is a great drummer. He’s just not great at being casual.

“I saw you,” Sevika says, leaning forward. With the table between them there's still space, but Viktor feels every inch and it’s paltry presence. “You wanted him. Maybe not consciously, but there’s a part of you that still wants him. You’re bonded.”
“So?” It’s Viktor’s turn to slam his palm on the table. The wood cracks beneath it; across the bar, Vander looks up from his table, Silco beside him. “It doesn’t matter, he’s still a traitorous idiot. He still fucked with my head.” He jabs a finger against his temple hard enough to hurt. “If he’s up here, Sevika, it’s because he forced it. Biology is irrelevant, he’ll never be my mate.”

With Piltover and Noxus at war, both sides know securing Zaun is integral to coming out on top. Viktor becomes an integral figure in deciding how the war will end. Jayce hopes to convince him to fight on Piltovers side - if he can get Viktor to talk to him.

But ambitions be damned—Viktor lifts his eyes surreptitiously, finding the object of his desire (and ire) blurry over the top rim of his glasses and wastes a few more precious seconds just staring at him. He’s tall, his height just on the side of unruly; his shoulders broad, hands practically the same size as the huge books he picks off the shelves. His hair is always gelled perfectly, even last week when it was raining something furious outside. He always wears a large pair of black glasses. He slings his backpack over his right shoulder only. He’s gorgeous.
And Viktor, sleep-deprived, overworked, and generally miserable, has, for the first time in his unfortunate life, a fucking crush.
