Summary
“Your boy will be strong and fast. Steadfast in both mind and heart. He will grow to be something of pride.”
“And…” the man’s eyes passed over the youth. It stared keenly, watching as the man flinched away when he set eyes upon it, “the other one…?”
“Shall be left to the fates design. I will do no more.”Before it returned the cherub to them, it touched the child gently on the forehead, marking it with the Wild of the Water.
The child, too small to understand the gift he had been given, looked back at it without a hint of fear or disdain. He was too young yet to feel otherness, too pure of heart. Perhaps with the Water’s help, he never would.
It watched the man and the woman return to their mortal land with the boy, and it wondered what they would make of its trickery.
After all, it hadn’t lied. It had promised one of their sons would grow to be strong and sure, and that another would be left to chance.
It simply hadn’t told them which son.

“What were you guys talkin about?” He says, his voice still groggy from his nap.
“Eddie’s new crush.” Hen says so naturally Eddie almost misses it. But then, Buck suddenly sits straight, whirling his head around until his eyes are fixed on him.
“Your… Your new crush?” Buck asks and his face scrunches up in the most adorable confusion Eddie has to physically refrain himself from cradling his chin and kiss him right there on the couch. “You… You didn’t tell me you were… Interested in someone.”
“Yeah well… That’s actually the reason I broke up with Ana.”

Summary
“Don’t talk about Buck,” Eddie says. “He,”
There’s not much he can say without outing himself, so he stops short. Inhales. Exhales. Inhales. Exhales.
“Look,” Eddie says, firm, “Chris is my son. And I get to decide where we live.”
“Oh, Eddie,” Helena says, voice full of pity. “Please don’t force our hand.”
“Force your hand?”
“To fight for his custody.”
“What?” Eddie asks with quiet disbelief. His brain is in the process freezing completely, his veins ice cold.
He knows his parents don’t like him. He’s known that his whole fucking life. But this? This is too much. And worse, it’ll hurt Chris. Turn him into the same mess Eddie is.
“He needs stability and security. Something he clearly didn’t have until very recently. We’d been thinking about it ever since you got shot. Then he called us, and we’d fully decided but, you just let him go and we thought we wouldn’t need to. But now,”
Eddie’s breathing gets increasingly heavier until he collapses.
