“It’s hell,” Barb said.
Eddie rolled his eyes, “This is getting old, Barbara. We’ve talked about this. We’re not in hell. We’re-” he shrugged almost angrily, “Look, if I had to guess, we’re in a spectral plane. We died in the Upside Down, right?”
“Right,” Steve said, not reading anything into where this could go.
“I think when you die in the Upside Down it makes dying not right somehow. I don’t know what happens when you die in the normal world. But I think this plane of existence, we don’t belong here. So we can’t,” Eddie struggled, “We can’t die the right way. You don’t stop when you die, because something about the Upside Down prevents you from- from whatever it is you’re supposed to do. So we’re in some kind of overlapping spectral dimension where we can see everything that is happening in the Upside Down, and nobody can tell we’re here.”

Finally, Eddie was satisfied with his work, and he sat up straight, scooting slightly away from Steve. He quirked his brow when the other man didn’t move, staying slumped forward with his elbows on his knees. “Steve? Stevie, can you look at me?”
Steve hummed softly and seemed to look at Eddie in slow motion, eyes hazy and a contented smile on his face. “Yes, Eddie?” He breathed, blinking slowly.
