Then there’s Mike. How long has it been since Will had heard anything from him? He couldn’t even be sure. He can’t remember the last letter he received from him. Had he even gotten any at all? Maybe in the first month or two, but after that… Will hasn’t seen Mike in nearly two years, hasn’t talked to him in one and a half years. Well, no, Will has talked to him, Mike just hasn’t said anything back. He just stopped responding, seemingly out of nowhere.

Mike and Will have fallen out after graduating high school, both at a different college and moving on with their lives, until Mike shows up at Will's door unannounced and has Will remembering everything he felt back when they were friends.

Will sighs, resigned. He drops his hands. “Okay. Honestly?” He hesitates, then shrugs. “He was a bad kisser. And I just… couldn’t get excited around him. At all.”
The reaction is immediate and merciless. Dustin makes a dramatic gagging noise. El gasps like she’s been handed gossip gold. Lucas high-fives Max, shaking her hand in his.
Mike doesn’t say anything. He just watches Will, watches the way he shrugs it off, the way he laughs a little too loud, the way his ears go red.
Or, Will's new boyfriend is a bad kisser. Mike thinks it's a crime that no one has kissed Will properly. He's on a goal to change that, Carlton be damned.

Will’s expression smoothes out then, and he’s looking at Mike in consideration, like he sees him in all the ways Mike does not want to be seen.
“You were jealous,” Will offers it like it’s a fact, simple as that, and Mike nearly doubles over with the shock of it, an immediate blow to whatever unbothered facade he was attempting to put on for Will.
“Was not,” but his voice is so weak that he nearly collapses in embarrassment, an omission of guilt clear as day.
Mike is in love with Will. He tries very hard to love him quietly.
