    Summary

And there he is. Eddie Munson. Hair just like his picture, long and wild and curly. He’s wearing a shirt with an unsettling lion creature, black jeans ripped and fraying at his pale knees, arms littered with leather bracelets and silver banded chains and tattoos.

“Uh… hi? Did you get the wrong trailer? It’s easy to get turned around here, they all look the same.”

“No, no,” Karen says, shaking her head, tittering uncomfortably. “No, we’re here for you. We- Holly and I, we brought you brownies?”

Eddie stares at the brownie tin in Holly’s little hands. Then back at Karen. “I’m sorry. I really don’t understand what’s happening here.”

"Hello? Ed, is that you? What's all that noise? What's going on?"

"Wayne, can you come pick me up ... I’m at a party at the Harringtons’ house ... I don't wanna talk about it, man … Can you please just come get me? Please."

Eddie hangs up the phone and swallows down the lump in his throat.

He refuses to cry in Steve Harrington's kitchen.

    Summary

Steve leans against the side of the boathouse and lets Eddie fumble with the cheap Bic lighter for a minute before he clears his throat and says, “You want a light?”

It's hard to read his tone. There's a bitter, suspicious, self-defensive part of Eddie that wants to lash out, but instead he grips the lighter until the plastic creaks and says, “Sure. If you have one.”

“Yeah.” Steve digs in his pocket and comes up with a nice Zippo. He doesn't hand it to Eddie; instead, he flicks the flame on and holds it out for him to lean down, and there's an intimacy to it that Eddie wasn't quite expecting. Like one of those old Leyendecker paintings. He imagines this tableau sketched out in clean art deco lines: the prom king and the freak. A study in contrasts.

Or: In which Eddie survives the Upside Down, and Steve Harrington turns out to be nothing like he expects.

    Summary

Eddie can’t figure it out. They’re barely even friends. But Steve was there when Eddie woke up in the hospital. Steve went back to what remained of the old trailer to rescue Eddie’s books and his concert t-shirts and his guitar. Steve paid for a fucking tutor to come to the hospital, and later to Steve’s kitchen, to help Eddie get through his finals so he could actually, finally graduate. Steve even threw him a graduation party afterwards, which was just Eddie running a D&D one-shot for the kids in the massive Harrington living room. Although Steve drew the line at joining the game, he did buy them all pizza.

The point is, no one has ever done this much for Eddie in his life. (Well, he knows some very scary people in suits did something to get the murder charges against him dropped, but that happened while he was mostly unconscious, and he still doesn’t know or want to know the details.) As far as he can tell, Steve has spent every waking moment since dragging Eddie’s bleeding skin sack out of the Upside Down trying to make sure Eddie never wants for anything again.

And that just makes the wanting so much worse.

    Summary

Four girls looked up at him, giddy expressions all over their faces as the door closed behind him. He only recognised Nancy, completely unaware of who the other women were. That was half the thrill though, he reminded himself. Not just for him, but for them.

“We’ve heard stories about you, Steve Harrington.” The woman who was holding his hand said quietly, giving his hand a gentle squeeze before she moved to sit on the edge of the bed.
