Summary
Before tragedy can strike, Harry (or, more accurately, Hermione) remembers the mirror connected to Sirius at Grimmauld Place. None of them go to the Department of Mysteries that night, meaning that Harry never loses his godfather, and Remus never loses the love of his life.

"They sat there, two damaged men and one damaged boy, letting the grief wash over them, letting it drown them for a moment so that they could finally breathe again. After a few minutes, Harry sniffed loudly, and then raised his head from its spot on Sirius’s shoulder, leaving a wet spot on the grey sweater. “I don’t care that you’re gay,” he mumbled. “I’m happy you’re together after all this time. And I really do want you to be my family.” He took a shaky breath.Sirius caught Remus’s eye again over Harry’s head, giving him a relieved smile. “We want that too, Harry, more than anything,” he said, Remus nodding emphatically in agreement."
