An AU spawned from reading a kinkmeme prompt incorrectly. Earthborn orphan John Shepard and rich-kid Kaidan Alenko--fresh out of a bad experience in 'brain camp'--meet in Vancouver during the former's time as a member of the Tenth Street Reds. Shepard doesn't scare Kaidan off with his dancing, and that has to mean something. The first thing Shepard noticed was his ass. All the rest fell into place after that, even with the strobing club lights making it hard to see. Shepard knew his whole story in two seconds, maybe less, a personal system he’d developed for not getting screwed over by strangers while they were doing business together.

“’Blue’, huh? Of all the nicknames you’ve given the crew, that is by far the most adorable and least platonic.”
“Uh,” he stopped mid-pour, letting some eggs fall gracelessly onto a plate. He laughed – probably louder than necessary – sliding the messy plate over to Steve. “Man, what are you talking about?”
Steve took his breakfast happily, continuing to pin James with that knowing stare as he loaded up a fork.
“James, I’ve seen you flirt with every person on this crew. Even Samantha. Hell, you pretended to hit on Garrus just last night. But with him, it’s…” he huffed, his smile deepening. “It’s sweet. In all the time I’ve known you, I’ve never seen you like that with someone. Like a little kid with a crush. It’s frankly adorable.”
James cleared his throat. Man, was it hot in here? He didn’t have a thing for Kaidan.
