Dustin laughed as he left the classroom with Mike. “Oh my God.”
“It’s not funny!” Mike exclaimed furiously.
“Dude, she totally played you. What kind of person only has one pencil on them?”
Mike blushed in embarrassment. “She’s new! I figured she was just unorganized!”
“You realize she probably made me move because she figured someone sitting in the front of the class was a good student, right?” Dustin grinned. “Just face it man, she got you good.”
OR: Punk-girl El joins Hawkins High, and it only takes her a single day to tick Mike off, get in trouble with the principal and also get arrested.
Too bad Mike can't stop thinking about the pretty-in-punk girl who had the nerve to steal his test answers on her first day.

------------------------Suddenly it’s like Mike’s field of vision narrows on all sides, because he’s physically unable to focus on anything but her, right here, so close... The dim glow of the lamp on the bedside table behind her traces the shape of her cheek and jaw and neck. Soft eyelashes flutter as she lifts her gaze back up to meet his. Her eyes are apologetic but pleading, embarrassed but wanting, and as usual she is able to say so many things in only a few words.
“Is it okay?” El asks in a whisper.
It takes a second to process, but he knows what she’s asking. Her body radiates warmth. She’s trembling ever so slightly, making a stray lock of damp hair quiver against her cheek. Her usually-sharp eyes have melted into pools of chocolate brown and he feels as though if he stares into them too long he’d drown. She waits on bated breath for an answer. Is it okay that I want you?
