Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and in Vanta’s case, all he needed was Zali’s return (and a basketball) to realize that his feelings were more tender than he thought.

Summary
Magic is a fickle art, curses even more. It takes time for a spell to take effect, especially one as sophisticated as the one Shu needs for his jobs. The longer he has a reasonable reason to stay with his target the better, so sex always felt like the most practical of the solutions: gave him an excuse to spend time enough in their company for the curse to take effect, privacy to hide any signs of his spell being cast, and made his targets drop their guards to boot. Perfect combination.
Well, except for the terrible sex, but, you know. No job is perfect.
