    Summary

"I was being serious when I said I don't have many stories to tell, you know?" Neteyam settled to say, starting to feel a little bashful from the many times the other seemed to have shown interest in his life. (In him. It felt odd, considering how the people around him usually only ever ask about Toruk Makto and how it felt like to be the warrior's son.)

Purposely, before Aonung could say a word, the omatikayan added, "Plus, why do you still insist on getting me to talk anyway?" Then, just because, he added jokingly, "Do you like me or something?"

Rather than reacting to the joke, Aonung replied to the omatikayan's other questions. "Like I said; no way you don't have stories to tell.

You came to our shores wearing your cummerbund. That garment alone tells a lot."

    "Like what?"

"Like how you look as young as your younger brother, but already act so…" he paused, thoughtful, "…mature."

    "I don't look that mature."

"Forest boy. I'm also 15 - yet I still act like a child."

or Neteyam wasn't used to attention. (Aonung had all the time in the world.)

    Summary

"Aonung," his father said, looking at his son with a faraway look, as if the oloeyktan was recalling a fond memory. "When the time comes, you will find the fire in someone's eyes so beautiful, that you will be willing to burn - just to see them glow," his father said, not making sense at all.

A few years later, it shocked the metkayina boy greatly when the first thought he had, as he looked into a stern pair of eyes, was of how breathtaking the shade of gold that he could find there, along with the fire softly crackling behind them.

All he could think about was how he was an idiot.

An idiot for not asking his father what he should do if he ever found someone that he was willing to burn for.

or Aonung wanted Neteyam's eyes to be on him at all times, but he learnt from his father that the best way to grab attention was 'by pissing the 'person of interest' of.

    Summary

"But she asked me to take care of Pril, and that, I have done my part. I remained in Awa'atlu until your youngest sister was able to walk and speak a little.

Your mother had not told me to look after you, but now, your sister has become a part of my family. In welcoming her into my family, it is my duty to look after you, too, Aonung.

I, as any mother, know that not one of them ever wished for their children to remain unmated for the rest of their lives."

The softened yet serious expression on her face took on a more subtly pitying yet determined look as she continued, "…which is why, for your stay here, I would like you to meet some of our best women." A pause. "…and men."

(Aonung refrained from flinching at the mere thought of mating with someone who wasn't him.)

or Neytiri was worried that Aonung was still unmated at 25, so she tried 'opening up his shell' by introducing him to new faces. (Aonung would rather choke than look at anyone who's not him.)

    Summary

So would it really be a stretch to assume that, maybe, Aonung was going out of his way to keep his schedule clear for Neteyam because he liked him? Or at least because he liked spending time with him?

He wasn't getting ahead of himself, was he?

But he had no way of testing his 'theory'.

A hand tucking his braid behind his ear snapped Neteyam out of his thought, and the omatikayan focused his attention back on his current companion - who looked a mixture of amused and fond as the said companion observed aloud:

    "You're spacing out again."

Neteyam didn't have the heart to swat the lingering hand away.

    "I'm thinking."

    "About what?"

"About how you've changed so much."

It wasn't the entire truth, but it was a part of it.

or Neteyam miraculously survived, and his first order of business? To find out whether a certain metkayina boy returns his feelings or not. (Aonung absolutely does.)

alternatively: aonunete flirts and everyone is tired of them.
