Summary
There, sitting on the edge of Alastor's bed, legs lazily crossed with one hand splayed out behind him, is Lucifer. His expression is strangely inscrutable, and Alastor despises the way it crawls down over him, taking in every loathsome detail of the humiliating state he's found himself in.
"Get out," he rasps—because there's no use asking how he got in. There probably isn't a single place in Hell that could keep Lucifer out if he put his mind to it. "Or are you enjoying the view that much?"
"Honestly?" Though Lucifer does not exactly smile, a dark shadow of amusement dances across his face before being replaced by something more resigned, almost disappointed. "Not as much as I thought I would. It's kind of pathetic, actually."
Alastor hadn't wanted anyone to see him like this, least of all Lucifer.

Summary
When Charlie was born, the first thing she did was cry.
Yes, all babies cried. It was their natural state: wake up, cry, eat, poop, cry some more, then fall asleep once they were done bringing Hell down on whoever was unlucky enough to disturb their peace.
But Charlie was special. She was the Princess of Hell, daughter of the Morning Star and the First Woman. So of course, she was destined to outdo everyone else in all things.
Unfortunately, that included crying.

Summary
Lucifer snarled, weak with the breathlessness of grief. “It’s not destruction, I can remake her—!”
“Can you? You’re fingerpainting a picture of a world where you didn’t fail her with her entrails!” Alastor swept one absent fingertip through Charlie’s viscera, like one would dust atop furniture. His smile was taunting, but his gaze was anything but as he studied the dark liquid there.
(In which the battle goes differently.)

Summary
“I don’t understand,” Charlie says. “Why is everyone at this hotel psychosexually obsessed with my dad.”
“A phenomenon that escapes rationality,” says Alastor.
“You’re obsessed with him in a different way, I don’t want to hear it.”
Or: Top ten ways not to rebound from your wife, everybody wants a piece of Lucifer, and Charlie would really, really like to stop learning things about her dad's sex life.
