    Years passed. Himmel continued his life in the capital, leading where he was needed, fighting where battles called. He waited, though he told himself he wasn’t. He told himself that fifty years was a long time, that Frieren was out in the world chasing the knowledge she so deeply craved.

    Then, after only five years, she returned.

    She stood at the gates of the capital, unchanged by time, her silver hair glistening under the morning light. Himmel saw her before anyone else, as if some invisible thread had tugged his gaze toward her.

    She had returned, far earlier than promised.

    And that was where their story truly began.
