Being best friends with someone just so entirely queer is not what Steve had planned for himself, especially back in, what he likes to call, his douchebag days. He has definitely said a couple things that he regrets, his fight with Jonathan coming to mind. He winces at the memory. Bottling up his feelings, and projecting onto Jonathan… not a good look.
He’s admitted this to Robin a few times, enough for her to get excited about having a queer friend, but not enough for her to ask about how he found out in full detail. Lets just say, he realized his bad habit of looking at lips. Recently, he’s noticed whose lips he's been looking at, and how they don’t really seem to mind it.

Will Byers loves Mike Wheeler.
It shouldn’t be a big deal. Of course he loves Mike. He always has. But it’s never felt like this. It’s never hurt to think about it, but it also never felt like a revelation rather than a fact. It hurts, and there’s nothing he can do to ease the pain. He looks across the room at Mike and all he sees is beauty where minutes ago he only saw his best friend. He notices entire constellations in the freckles strewn across his nose, stars glittering in his eyes, and it all seems inevitable. He loves Mike. He loves him and it’s a foregone conclusion, a wish on a shooting star destined to burn out. He loves him and he can’t ever have him, not in that way, and there’s nothing in the world that can ever hurt him again quite like this.
OR: When the party dares Mike to tell someone he loves them for one hundred days, Will doesn't expect to be the unlucky recipient. He definitely doesn't expect it to consume his last three months in Hawkins. But like most things in his life, absolutely nothing goes to plan.

Mike was frozen mid–chew, a piece of pasta hanging stupidly from his fork. His eyes were wide, fixed on Will’s chest.
On the hoodie.
On his hoodie.
The moment stretched like elastic. Mike blinked once. Twice. Then the blush hit - an immediate, fierce red crawling up his neck to the tips of his ears.
“Oh,” he croaked, voice cracking.
Will blinked. “Oh?”
“That’s, um, that’s…” Mike swallowed hard. “That’s my hoodie.”
Will felt heat rush to his own face. “Uh. Yeah. Sorry. I… I forgot to return it. I’ll give it back later.”
“No!” Mike squeaked, far too loudly. He cleared his throat violently. “I mean, you don’t have to. I’m not, like, I don’t need it. You can, um. Keep it. If you want.”
