    Summary

He captivated effortlessly. Katara knew better than anyone.

He had practiced this speech with her a couple of times, while they were working in the garden. His brow furrowed, his words exploratory, his eyes entreating her opinion. Now Katara listened to his voice flowing smoothly through the particular melody that only he could produce: a deep chord of regret for the past, high, clear notes of hope for the future, even a calibrated undertone of tasteful humor.

She looked around at the crowd. Nobody spoke, but she knew what they were thinking. Charming. Inspirational. Katara smiled wryly. Aang was very, very good at this.

    Summary

It had been a long few weeks. Katara had been staying late night after night at the hospital, dealing with some complicated logistics around the training of new healers while also tending to her own patients. Several times recently, she had come home after he’d already gone to bed, and he had awoken in the middle of the night to find her clutching him tightly in her sleep. For his part, Aang was encountering resistance over his push for a new air temple on an uninhabited island in the bay, sometimes with flagrantly prejudiced overtones, from a few of the more contrarian members of the Council. It was taking up an inordinate amount of his time and giving him a perpetual stress headache. Aang and Katara had both agreed that they could use a distraction, a night on the town, just the two of them.

    Summary

When they landed Appa on the outskirts of the village, the sun was just setting. They walked down the path to the village gates, hand in hand. The fire bugs began to emerge from the grass, and once in a while one would blink lazily past at eye level.

After walking in silence for a while, Katara cleared her throat. Although she was aware he would see right through her, she tried to broach the camelephant in the room as casually as possible: "So… do you think Aunt Wu still lives here?"
    ........

Several years after the war, Katara and Aang make a brief stop in a town they remember from their childhood.
