His body hurt. He was used to his body hurting by now. Skating at four, playing hockey at eight got him used to being hurt, got him used to bruises and hits. Getting invited to play for the NTDP had contributed heavily to that. Gruelling workouts, skating until his legs felt like they would fall off, having his eating so regulated that it was oftentimes not enough.
Yeah, pain came pretty easily for someone like Will Smith.
The only thing was that this pain was different.

Summary
The elevator ride up is silent, save for Connor's constant moving. It's like he can't sit still to save his life. Quinn nearly jumps out of his skin when Connor lets out a low whine, leaning against him.
"Good?"
"Always," Connor whispers, but it slices through the silence like a knife through butter.
He looks up at Quinn, his slouch evident. Up close, it's easier to focus his eyes. Quinn's grinding his teeth together, jaw strung tight with...some emotion, Connor can't tell. His eyes are trained on the door, like a frightened rabbit ready to run. Connor hopes he doesn't. He wants Quinn to stay.
The elevator dings.
