Summary
Every morning, Buck said goodbye to Vee, with a pat on the head. Sometimes, he took them around the house with him, during his morning routine. He would look in the mirror after flossing, practising his newfound vocabulary:
"This is Vee, they go by they/them pronouns."
Again, dumb.
It helped some deep, unidentifiable part of him though, so it stayed.
Or: Buck meets a nonbinary person, becomes emotionally attached to a plushie, has a gender crisis, confesses his undying love for his best friend, and remembers he has a family who loves him. Maybe in that order.

Summary
The door slammed, and a feeling of dread washed over Buck. The room was spinning, the faces of his parents flashed in my mind, the way Maddie cried when she found out, how the kids at college snickered at him, the dirty looks he got at the pride parade when he was 22. His mind was spinning.The world felt foreign and every breath he took was laboured. Eddie, Chris, Bobby, Hen, Chim. Faces of disappointment and anger.
They’d all say he lied. They’d call him ‘she’ and ‘Evangeline’ and they’d laugh at him and he’d cry, he’d sob. And they’d pretend they were fine with it, but Eddie and Chim wouldn’t change until he left locker room, and Hen and Karen would start inviting him over for wine nights, and Bobby will look at him differently, and his whole life, everything he’s worked towards, his happiness, it’ll all come tumbling down. The room was spinning so fast that he felt sick. He couldn’t breathe. It felt like all the air had been sucked out of the room. He was left with the pounding in his head. All the voices telling him he was a disgrace. Telling him he was disgusting. The spinning room, the air, the noise, the anger. The collapse. Tommy will tell. He’s gonna tell everyone. Oh god, everyone’s going to know.

Summary
The lawsuit is done, Buck is back at work, it'll take time, but everything will return to normal eventually, right? The firehouse crew is hurt, and Buck is struggling. He starts to spiral, going back to his old habits, with no one there to see or catch him. How long can he last on the downward trajectory? Or will someone notice before it's too late?
i.e Buck struggles with his mental health and relationships following a lawsuit against his fire department.
